"I've got the power shootin' through my viens"

LIVE REVIEW

SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIK
SHEFFIELD HALLUM UNIVERSITY, SHEFFIELD 3RD JUNE 2000

The doors opened at 7.30pm and the waiting crowd of goths entered the venue. The number of people there just to see the Sputniks (4 bands played) was evident by the number of Sputnik t-shirts being worn.

SSS were not due on stage until 11.30pm, what do we do until then? Well, the bar seemed very tempting and we spent the first hour sipping alcoholic beverages and talking all things Sputnik. Then one of us decided maybe we ought to take a look at the group on stage, just to show willing.

As we approached the stage area we glanced down towards the SSS merchandise stand and there was Dirty Deg. I assumed that the gang would want to meet him and off we went. He was so cool...posing for photos...autographs...talking about Sputnik past and present. X man also appeared for some photos and autographs, Martin was teased by Neal as he signed my WW4 sleeve, "so someone DID buy it". Both left shortly afterward claiming that Tony was having a problem backstage.

As the night went on, more and more people seemed to arrive. Finally, SSS took to the stage accompanied by the clockwork orange intro. Tony and Neal were dressed as at Whitby, Degville was looking very sleek in a green suit and blond hair. They launched straight into Slave Trade, Everybody Loves U, Alien Christ and Zero Zero. Deg's teased the crowd throughout the set by referring to the new album. These new songs were interspersed with 21st Century Boy, Teenage Thunder, Jayne Mansfield ("does anyone know the words to this"? screamed Degville and invited one lucky S.O.B. to take to the stage and sing with him - how we all wished it was us), Atari Baby, Love Missile + Sympathy For The Devil and Rockit Miss USA.

The Sputnik's seemed much more confident on stage here than at Whitby, with a lot more interaction with the crowd. After the set, Martin and Tony (now without glasses), came out for more photos, autographs and chat. Tony was heard saying that the sound on stage was terrible - it sounded great to us!!! Martin even signed the my Think Sputnik t-shirt. All in all, an absolutly fantastic night, great music and really nice people to talk to. Special shouts to SputnikFred (wish you could have been there), Lloyd (the on stage participant), Greg and Simon with the pink hair and rio rocks top - u know whu u r!
