"Johann! Johann! Johann! Johann! Johann! Johann! he's not coming." LIVE REVIEW
Oh what to say about this gig? Well to sum it up it was phenomenal. Mind you I’m going on my recording for that. I’m afraid I succumbed to the dreaded blue shit, a condition that used to plague me at gigs a few years back.
Set list as follows,
Rockit Miss USA
One thing immediately obvious is there was much more audience participation here than at just about any other gig I’ve ever been too. Maybe it’s because Martin seemed to be struggling with the arrangements tonight so he just let us get on with it. Also Johann sang on several of the tracks and sounded great, he has a brill accent and I hope this is something that continues.
Martin got Lynn and Dee and several others up on stage for Dabble which he then sang for Lynn as a birthday present. The ultimate participation came at the end of the set when the die hards (including yours truly) were invited up to the stage to sing an acapella version of Dancerama with Martin. What everyone else thought I dread to think. It probably didn’t help when afterwards I launched in Rockit Miss USA too. Oh dear how embarrassing. I don’t fit in with all the other super cool people up there and someone needs to restrain me if this ever happens again.
Martin also made several mentions of his forthcoming marriage to Johann which is happening while out in South Africa. I wish them all the very best of course but I’m sure there will be much more said of this at a later date.
As ever the electronic sounded great and was well received. Overall I very much enjoyed my first gig of 2010.
Special mention has to made of all the die hard fans that made it to this show, something that only generally happens at London gigs. You all know who you are. It was great to catch up with two old gigging buddies I’ve not seen for several years, namely Jonathan Nurse of the former Stoke contingent and Matty who was there with me right from Whitby onwards. Was also thrilled to continue to meet new fans, namely Paul(a) and Amanda. I think we also I/we/they converted Emma who I seem to recall was chatting to me about Green Day at some point but has since told me she had a great time and would love to go again. Very glad to hear that.
Not my best effort I know. It’s diet cokes all night next time I promise.
