"Happy Birthday to you" LIVE REVIEW
It was warmer in the venue this time than on that night last November. There were already loads of people there when we arrived. Neal was sitting with some of the fans, just like one of the lads. Martin told us that some of his family were going to be there, I think it was his brother and his niece. Neal saw the "latex lover" t shirt I'd made and asked if it was me that had brought the blow up doll to the Derby gig (as if)!! Apparently it ended up going home with Martin (just as well other wise it probably would have come home with me).
After quite a while spent drinking and telling very dirty jokes we all thought it best to head through to the function room where the support band were already playing, (same one as last time apparently). We headed to the front once they'd gone and waited for the sPUTTy's to appear. You could hardly see them when they did come on, the smoke machine was on overdrive.
Lisa led the way, she's now rejoined the band, I assume for the rest of the tour. Martin was in a wicked blue suit and new Elvis t shirt, Neal in the white coat he wore at Bedford.
To be perfectly honest, as I always am, I don't remember much about the set (haven't watched the video yet), having already consumed copious amounts of alcohol. I had the ultra vixens 2001 (aNNIe and Rach) to my left really going for it and poor old Jon to my right, having to cope with me finding everything absolutely hilarious. Martin dedicated Alien Christ to me which was kind of nice and the whole band (and half the audience) sang happy birthday to me at the start of the encore, which was tad embarrassing and very humbling.
Afterwards I think we chatted to the band for a while before heading back to the bar where we stayed "entertaining" people until about 3AM when it was suggested maybe we should leave.
Many many thanks to MrsW and aNNIe for organising the birthday SSSurprise for me and to everyone who made it such a special night.
Special thanks to aNNIe, mATTy, Martin, Tony, Neal, Lisa and Zammo for the pressies, they are hanging on the wall right next to the computer, a constant reminder that I will shortly be a thirty something.
