SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIK ELECTRONIC
LEE'S 50TH BIRTHDAY, MOSELY ARMS, DIGBETH, BIRMINGHAM 11TH JUNE 2011

So I was very privileged to be invited to Lee Jones 50th Birthday celebrations. This was originally due to take place at the Sound Bar in Birmingham, however due to the ongoing economic problems the Sound Bar has sadly ceased trading. However, the Moseley Arms stepped up to the bar and saved the day.

I'd heard quite a bit about the first act, Roses For The Madman. And very good they are too, they ran through a half hour or so set of very catchy electronic tunes, my favourite of which was Suicide Shoes. You should check these guys out if you get the chance, I will certainly visiting their iTunes store in the near future.

The main event of course was the full set by our boys Martin and Johann. These guys look more fabulous every time I see them They played a great set for Lee which covered just about all era's of the band to date,

ROCKIT MISS USA
21ST CENTURY BOY
TEENAGE THUNDER
SCI-FI LOVER
SUCCESS
FRANKENSTEIN CHA CHA CHA
JAYNE MANSFIELD

21ST CENTURY BOY

They also sang happy birthday to the boy Lee, as did we all before leaving the stage. Well the dance floor, there wasn't actually a stage. Not that it matters it just meant the people at the back didn't get such a good view as normal. Well not unless they were at the bat but that is another story ;)

I spoke to Martin before the show about some forthcoming new material. It seems at work has started on at least one all new track entitled Electronic Umbrella. Personally I'm happy to hear more old material being given the SSSE treatment but all new material is what many fans seem to be hankering for so this way everybody should be happy. I also got the impression there's a strong desire to redo some of the Prophet Of Freak material.

After the show we kinda hit the Jagerbombs and the next thing I knew it was time to leave. Without chance of chatting to anyone else, be they fans, artists, birthday boys or bar staff.

Big thanks to Lee for inviting me to his wonderful birthday celebrations, to Dean and Jo for giving me a lift down and to Lucky Al and Julie for the place to crash and the bacon sarnies.
