"you look pretty dumb for a mouse Mickey" LIVE REVIEW
Walking through Camden carrying a well over packed bag and wearing a pair of jeans that just did not want to stay where they should be is not fun. Camden looked so easy to get round on a map yet could I find Chalk Farm Road? The fuck I could and I'm eternally grateful to the rather bemused young lady who finally helped me out.
I got to the hotel and was checking in when this guy came in and asked if I was The Doc, much to the amusement of the receptionist. The Lord alone knows what sort of doctor she thinks I am. Anyway it was Geordie Dave and Spud, staying in the same hotel. As it turned out so were Penny, Barry, mATTy, aNNIe, Mandy and Kit-Yi.
Once ready we checked out where Dingwalls was then Mandy, Kit-Yi and myself headed on to the Devonshire Arms, the pre-arranged meeting place. Slowly we gathered, us three, Geordie Dave, Spud, Callum + missus(??), Jon, Brendan, CJ, Paul, Miss T, KP, Kevin and Paul Chamberlain. We all had a good laugh and chat and I managed to pick up two tickets for Penny who, in her divine and infinite wisdom, had decided to leave hers at home.
Anyway, we went on to Dingwalls about 8.30. Wicked venue packed with people ready to experience first hand the fifth generation of rock n roll. I spoke to Tony who confirmed that they would be playing the same three new tracks (Mickey Mouse Is Going To Hell, Everybody Wants What Sputnik Wants and Original Freekster), as they had in Coventry. He also spoke of some possible UK shows up North, possibly including Sunderland.
After this I'm afraid the dreaded blue shit kicked in, everyone was buying it for me. I think I was more or less down the front when the Sputnik's took to the stage, TJ was in a ripped Original Freekster shirt, Deg's in the red leather suit seen previously at several other gigs. As usual at the London shows the crowd went mad straight away, loads of moshing to Mickey Mouse, the set opener. The set started out the same as the Coventry gig, but I think Alien@tion was missed out, as was Hound Dog. I could be wrong but I think Blak Elvis was represented by a single song, Always On My Mind, which me and Jon Nurse kinda took it upon ourselves to join in with, probably to the horror of every living breathing soul in earshot. Fuck it though we had a laugh. I know by the time they got to the encore I was round the side of the stage with Plastique. Other than that I can remember no other details except that the band (especially Martin) were on top form and the crowd loved 'em. Several people joined the band for Rockit Miss USA, the traditional final song.
After the set?? Well I remember several photo's being took, drinking lots more blue shit, a rather bizarre walk round Camden in the middle of the night which ended with Penny, Barry, mATTy, aNNIe and me eating pizza in my hotel room.
So I guess I had a good time, more UK gigs soon please Tony.
