Well this night had been a long time coming. My buddy and long time Sputnik fan had arranged for Sigue Sigue Sputnik to come and play a set at his 40th Birthday Bash and yours truly here was one of the lucky ones to get invited along.

Fucking hell what a night, I don’t really know what to say. I have no idea what the set list was, I had one or two bottles of blue shit just to get me into the swing of things. Two tracks made their electronic debuts, Boom Boom Satellite and Rio Rocks. I’ve always loved Satellite, if ever a track should have been a single then this is it. I got a real kick out of Rio Rocks as it’s the first time I’ve ever heard it played live although I was a little merry by the time they played it.

Sputnik were supposed to be playing to half hour sets. Nah!!!! Once they hit that stage they just played and played and played. I think for about an hour all told and then they came back for more. Several tracks got played more than once and everyone got on the stage including me having vowed never again Bilston. Dean came on stage and sang Massive Retaliation, Lynn had a stab at Don’t Dabble With The Devil and as for Paul(a), well what didn’t the dude sing?? My little archaeologist buddy is certainly making up for lost time and he tells me it’s his 40th later this year so maybe we can look forward to a repeat performance? I kinda didn’t sing anything but did kinda kick Johann off the keyboards for Rockit Miss USA and provided some probably truly awful backing vocals to several songs. Johann’s job is safe believe me.

This was almost a Bilston reunion, there was yours truly, Shy Girl, Dean and Joanne (of course), Paul(a) and Amanda, Dodger, Wullie and Lynn. Also along for the ride were Cakeman and my long long long term gigging buddy Annie who spent most of the weekend flicking my left earlobe and calling me an asshole!!!!! This night was almost our 10th anniversary, we met at Sigue Sigue Sputnik’s gig in Whitby 29th April 2000. Ten years on and we’re still at it she said!!!

A fantaSSStic night that felt just like a proper Sputnik gig. First class company and food too. Big big thanks, love and hugs to Dean and Jo for organising such a great night weekend. Love you guys.
